Conjunction

Conjunction Aspect in Astrology

A conjunction occurs when two or more planets occupy the same degree (or within roughly 8° of each other) in the birth chart or by transit. It is the most powerful aspect — planets in conjunction fuse their energies, intensifying and blending their themes in a single point of focus.

The conjunction (☌) is considered the most potent of the five major aspects in astrology. When two planets occupy the same degree, their energies merge — they cannot be easily separated.

Fusion of Energies

Unlike a trine (harmonious flow) or square (creative tension), the conjunction makes two planets function as one. This can be remarkably powerful when the planets are naturally compatible (Venus–Jupiter) or create an internal tension when they are not (Saturn–Uranus).

The Sun-Planet Conjunctions

When a planet is within 17° of the Sun, it is said to be combust — overwhelmed by solar light and potentially weakened in its own expression but also galvanized by the Sun's energy. Exact Sun conjunctions have unique interpretations by planet.

Stelliums

Three or more planets in conjunction form a stellium — a cluster of energy in one sign and house. Stelliums create a dominant life theme but can also indicate imbalance, as so many energies pour into one area.

Transiting Conjunctions

The most powerful transits are conjunctions to natal Angles (Ascendant, MC, IC, Descendant) and personal planets. When outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) conjunct natal Sun or Moon, major life chapters begin or end.
