Non-Medical Cycle Tracking

The Soulwise rule is short: we track menstrual cycles to give you a daily-ritual context — what phase you are in, what your cycle-weather looks like, what your menstrual-archetype reads. We do not predict ovulation for fertility, we do not predict it for contraception, and we do not diagnose anything.

Why this matters

Two reasons.

The regulatory reason. A product that predicts ovulation for contraception is a Class II medical device under both FDA and EU MDR. The bar is high and right — failure modes harm people. Soulwise has not done the clinical validation work for that bar and has no plan to. Staying explicitly non-medical keeps us out of a category we cannot safely play in.

The dignity reason. Cycle data is among the most sensitive data a person can hand to an app. Most cycle apps treat it as a medical signal, then leak it to ad-tech. Soulwise treats it as daily-ritual context — useful to you, useless to anyone else. The category mismatch is the whole point.

How we enforce it

Three layers.

1. Code-level lint (scripts/check-anti-claims.ts): runs in CI against every blog post, glossary entry, and dynamic page string. Catches phrases like "predict ovulation," "fertile window," "diagnose," "cure."
2. Schema typing: the applicationCategory for Soulwise's SoftwareApplication JSON-LD is LifestyleApplication, not HealthApplication. This is enforced by the schema composable.
3. Copy review: every blog post by a non-engineer goes through a human reviewer who has the anti-claim copydeck open. See jargon-free-astrology for the companion posture on astrology copy.

What we will say

• "You are likely in the Build phase."
• "Your check-in pattern this week resembles the start of your Release phase."
• "Letters from a past Release phase tend to land harder."

What we will not say

• "You are ovulating."
• "Your fertile window is Tuesday."
• "This pattern indicates PMDD."
• "You may be pregnant."
