Cycle Weather
Cycle Weather
Two timescales. Two reads.
Climate vs weather
Your menstrual-archetype is the climate — the rhythm that stays true across many cycles. It changes slowly, on the timescale of life events, sleep regulation, training load.
Cycle weather is the variance this week relative to that climate. It changes quickly: a stressful week, a travel cycle, an illness, a single bad sleep streak. Both are signal. Both come from your own check-ins. They run on different timescales, and Soulwise reads them differently.
How the read is computed
For each chip dimension (energy, focus, social load, tenderness, restlessness) Soulwise tracks two running statistics:
- A long-window mean — your baseline for that chip in that phase.
- A short-window mean — this week's value for that chip in that phase.
The weather is the standardised difference between the two. When the short-window value sits more than one standard deviation off the long-window mean, the weather card surfaces in the weekly recap with a one-line read — never a prescription.
Why we hide it daily
Daily variance is mostly noise. Yesterday you slept badly; the day before, an argument; the day before that, a long meeting. Each one moves the chip. None of them are pattern. Forcing a weather read every day would teach you to act on noise.
By surfacing the weather only in the weekly recap, Soulwise gives you the bandwidth to see whether the week sat off-baseline — which is signal — instead of asking you to act on each daily wobble.
What the response engine does with it
The response-engine-four-factor reads cycle weather as one of four inputs to the daily note. When the weather is dramatic, the note softens; when the weather is calm, the note can hold sharper observations.
What it never does
- Tells you you are doing something wrong.
- Implies you should change behaviour to "improve" the weather.
- Pings you with a notification when the weather shifts.
It is a quiet read. You see it when you open the recap, and you let it be.
