Letters from Future Self

The mirror to letters-from-past-self. Past-self surfaces what you already wrote. Future-self lets you write forward — a short note to the version of you who will show up in three months, scheduled to land on a day whose cycle phase matches today's.

How it works

  1. Tap "Write forward" from the journal home.
  2. Choose a window — two weeks to one year. Soulwise nudges three months as the default because that is where pattern-recall research suggests recognition is sharpest.
  3. Write up to 280 characters. The hard cap is on purpose: long letters become advice; short letters stay as the small honest thing you actually meant.
  4. Pick the target's phase pairing: same phase, complementary phase, or any.
  5. The letter encrypts, sits in your local archive, and surfaces when the cycle calendar aligns.

Why we built it

Because pattern recognition needs both directions. Reading your past self shows you a rhythm; writing to your future self lets the rhythm shape your present. The feature is small on purpose — most people write three or four letters a year, and one of them lands when it matters.

Privacy

Same posture as period-privacy:

  • Encrypted at write time with a device-derived key.
  • Stored locally; no server has the body.
  • Scheduling runs in the local notification system, not on a server.
  • Erasing the app erases the key. The letter is gone.

What it is not

Not a goal-setting tool. Not a habit nudge. Not a self-help script. The letter does whatever you tell it to do, then disappears.

When it pairs with the cycle

Soulwise lets you ask for the letter to arrive on a same-phase future day, so the felt context matches what you remembered when writing. If you wrote in the luteal-phase about a pattern that emerges then, the letter will surface in a luteal day three months out — when the recognition is most useful.
