Luteal Phase

Luteal Phase

The luteal phase is the second half of the menstrual cycle, running from ovulation to the start of the next period — typically days 15 to 28. Progesterone rises after ovulation and drops before bleeding, estrogen has a secondary rise and fall, and for many people the felt experience changes: bandwidth narrows, interiority sharpens, social load gets heavier sooner.

How Soulwise reads it

In cycle-phases, the luteal phase is the Release phase. The frame matters. We are not telling you to crash on the sofa or skip your gym. We are noting that the cycle is in a closing-loops half, where finishing what was started in the follicular-phase tends to feel more right than opening a new chapter.

The Release read is a context, not a prescription. Soulwise will not block you from launching something in the luteal window. It will, if you have the phase layer on, mention that the next two weeks are typically lower-bandwidth and ask whether that lands for you.

What it does not mean

The luteal phase is not the same as PMS. PMS clusters in the last few days for some people; the phase itself spans the entire second half of the cycle. Soulwise does not diagnose PMS, PMDD, or any other symptom — those are medical territory.

It also is not your menstrual-archetype. The archetype reads patterns across many cycles; the luteal phase is one slice inside one cycle.

Why we frame it as Release

The phrase comes from research on hormonal cycling and creative work, plus our own design heuristic of giving every phase a neutral verb. "PMS" implies dysfunction; "luteal" is correct but clinical; "Release" describes what the phase tends to ask of attention — let go, finish, name what stays.
