Transits
Transits in Astrology
Transits are the ongoing, real-time movements of planets through the zodiac. When a transiting planet reaches a degree that aspects (conjunction, square, trine, opposition, or sextile) a planet or angle in your natal chart, it activates that natal placement's themes for the duration of the transit.
How Transits Work
Think of your natal chart as a landscape of potential — mountains, valleys, rivers, and plains. Transiting planets are like weather systems moving through that landscape. The natal planets are permanent features; transits describe what kind of weather is currently activating each feature.
A transiting Jupiter conjunct natal Sun brings sunny, expansive, high-energy weather to your core identity — a period of confidence, visibility, and opportunity. A transiting Saturn square natal Moon brings a challenging storm to emotional security — a period of emotional restriction, responsibility, or endings that ultimately strengthens foundations.
Planet Speed and Transit Duration

| Mars | Days to weeks |
| Jupiter | 1–2 weeks (up to months retrograde) |
| Saturn | Weeks to 3+ months (retrograde repeats) |
| Uranus | Months to 1+ year |
| Neptune | 1–2+ years |
| Pluto | 2–3+ years |
The Most Significant Transit Categories
Saturn transits: Structural events — career shifts, relationship commitments or endings, health wake-up calls, taking on responsibilities. Saturn matures the areas it touches.
Jupiter transits: Expansion, opportunity, luck, growth. Often brings the most rewarding periods when hitting personal planets or the Ascendant.
Uranus transits: Sudden disruption and liberation. Breaks up stagnant patterns and forces course corrections. Exciting or alarming, often both.
Eclipse transits: When eclipses hit natal planets or angles, they accelerate change dramatically — often within weeks of the eclipse date.
Triple Transits
When a transiting planet stations retrograde and turns direct, it often crosses the same natal degree three times — creating a prolonged period of activation with three distinct chapters: initial activation, retrograde review, final resolution.
