Progressions in Astrology

Secondary progressions — the most widely used progressed technique — advance your natal chart symbolically: one day after birth equals one year of life. The planetary positions 30 days after your birth become your progressed chart at age 30. This creates a slowly evolving chart that tracks the inner psychological development of the person over their lifetime.

How to Read Progressions

Progressions are NOT the same as transits. Where transits describe external weather, progressions describe inner landscape evolution — the slow maturation of the psyche, shifting values, and changing life chapters.

The Progressed Moon

The progressed Moon moves approximately 1° per month and changes zodiac sign every 2.5 years. Each sign change marks a distinct emotional chapter — a period dominated by that sign's themes in terms of what you need, how you process feelings, and what environments nourish you.

Progressed New Moon and Full Moon

When the progressed Moon conjuncts the progressed Sun, a progressed New Moon occurs — marking the beginning of a new 30-year life chapter. This is often associated with major life reinvention: career changes, relationship reconfigurations, relocations.

The progressed Full Moon (progressed Moon opposite progressed Sun, about 15 years after the New Moon) marks the peak and culmination of the current chapter — achievements come to fruition, but themes begun at the New Moon often face their first major test.

Progressed Sun

The progressed Sun moves approximately 1° per year and changes zodiac sign approximately every 30 years. When the progressed Sun changes sign, the core personality undergoes a fundamental shift — a Capricorn progressed Sun moving into Aquarius shifts focus from structure and achievement toward community and innovation.

Progressed Ascendant

The progressed Ascendant advances at about 1° per year. A sign change in the progressed Ascendant (which may take decades) is associated with a marked shift in personality presentation, life approach, and even physical appearance.
